IOTN

The Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) is an attempt to describe the significance of malocclusion in terms of its likely influence on an individual's health and appearance. It intends to identify those who are most likely to benefit from orthodontic treatment.

The index is divided into a Dental Health Component and an Aesthetic Component (Brook and Shaw, 1989). These are discussed in more detail in this program.
